Feathers of Italy & The Interior Co

Case Study

The opportunity that really appealed to me on the Moreton Connect website was working with an interior designer at Feathers of Italy & The Interior Co. ( After a few email communications we arranged to meet for an interview. During the interview we discussed my personal skill set and suitability to fill the required roles in business - it soon became clear that social media was a key element to the success of this business.

The interior designer gave me a great opportunity to work with her for a week. Whilst there, I sent out  mailshot emails to a huge list of subscribers; this involved choosing products in season for the summer and offering a variety of sales and incentives for this large client base. I was also able to see the process of real interior design taking place. I had the opportunity to work alongside a designer to generate mood boards for a forthcoming interior photoshoot that would feature in interior magazines such as 'Home Beautiful'. At the end of the week I was even lucky enough to experience a design show where we sold products and networked to secure new customers and contacts for the mailing list.

Overall I feel that this experience has boosted my confidence enormously and given me great enthusiasm to pursue my future career goals. I enjoyed it so much that I was offered a position for a summer holiday job! I am now planning my next Moreton Connect placement with an Old Moretonian who is now a Milliner.

Ruth Jefferis (L6)

I wish Ruth was staying longer as she was, and would be, an asset to any employer - I would hire her immediately. She turned her hand to anything; at one point we had 7 tradespeople at the property, the office was upside down and Ruth took delivery of carpets, signed for them and offered everyone drinks without being prompted. She was professional, friendly, totally competent, diligent and enthusiastic. She even got down on her hands and knees in suit and tights to rip up carpets for a magazine article we were on a tight deadline for. I was initially worried about having someone so young so receiving Ruth was a great experiment to me to take someone on as a trainee. I wish her every success in the future and I would not hesitate in recommending her for any job. I recommend other girls take this initiative as spending a week with an employer in the real business world is priceless.
